International Women's Day 2020

To celebrate International Women's Day 2020, we asked the women we admire to answer a question of their choice. Here's what they had to say...

Andrea Allen, Artist

test

JMD: Who are you celebrating on international women’s day and why?

Andrea Allen: Dorothy Bryrne ( Head of News and Media at channel 4 ) - for her lifelong determination to uncover the truth about social injustice and violence against women. The painting celebrates girls, surf and friendship.

Grace Cobb, Artist

Carnival

JMD: What is the best piece of advice a woman has given you? (and who!)

Grace Cobb: I worked with Diane Von Furstenberg for 8 years. She was an enormous inspiration.I will always remember she regularly said to me “Be the woman you want to be” And “never be afraid “ It always stuck with me - I think it can mean many things but for me it meant understanding how behaviour effects others and being brave.

Indigo Lewin, Photographer

JMD:  Who is your creative muse?

Indigo Lewin: Too many! Leonora Carrington, Nan Goldin, Francesca Woodman, Louise Bourgeois, Lee Krasner, Camille Paglia, Diane Arbus, to name a few… come to think of it most of my creative influence is female. Quite into Princess Margaret at the moment also.
